Now that the growing season is coming to an end, we're starting to make our plans for the winter here at Growing in Harmony. We have a lot of construction planned, firstly some new covered growing areas, one of which is already in progress, to allow us to grow outdoor plants like brassicas without risking them being eaten by birds. Currently we grow brassicas in raised beds covered by mesh but the new system will give us permanent walk-in protected areas so that we can access the plants much more easily when we need to tend to them.
Our other construction plans involve making a new wood shed in the corner of our land and making some alterations to the partitioning of the chicken coops to create two large coops, allowing both flocks of birds plenty of room when they aren't out roaming the land.
Meanwhile our work on the Skinningrove site is progressing well, the land is nearly cleared ready for us to renovate the beds that are already there and to build some new, larger ones. We plan to add a terraced growing area, features around the pond, pathways and decorative stone. We are also in the process of arranging some help with pruning and caring for the fruit trees.
And finally, at the Harmony Hub, we've created our second video with award winning chef Karl Buxton. The new recipe is for quesadillas and is soon to be released on our youtube channel and website. With Karl's help we are also preparing the building so that in the near future it can be used by groups as it has been in the past.
